Happy Earth Day, my friends. This is an incredibly important day to me both personally and professionally. As many of you know, I grew up in Iceland where environmental conservation is a priority to its people. Living an environmentally friendly life is part of my DNA, and so, it’s part of Icelandic Glacial’s DNA. Today marks the 46th year of celebration, and according to the Earth Day Network, more than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day activities each year all around the world.
At Icelandic Glacial, we celebrate Earth Day not only today, but every day. We are proud to be certified as Carbon Neutral for both product and operation. We work with The CarbonNeutral® Company, a leading carbon emissions consultant to maintain a net-zero carbon footprint. To offset any remaining net carbon emissions, we invest in bona fide renewable energy projects worldwide, and we are happy to share the projects we are investing in over the next two years:
Seneca Meadows Landfill project (USA): This project helps to capture and destroy methane from landfill gas emitted by the expansion to the Seneca Meadows landfill site in New York. Seneca Meadows, Inc. is dedicated to responsible waste management.
Danjiang River Solar Cookers (China): These cookers, which provide sufficient heat for cooking, are designed to help reduce fuel consumption while improving indoor air quality and living conditions in low-income rural households.
In addition to our investment to these projects, Icelandic Glacial takes the following steps to reduce our CO2 emissions:
- Our sustainable operation is fueled entirely by geothermal and hydroelectric power.
- Our packaging is 100% recyclable and our bottles our BPA-free made from recycled rPET plastic.
- We utilize otherwise empty cargo space on vessels returning to the United States and other parts of Europe as the most efficient means of shipping.
We are committed to responsibly sharing our water with you and will continue to take the necessary measures to ensure our operation remains environmentally friendly.
How are you celebrating Earth Day? We‘d love for you to share your photos or comments on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, or you can email us at promotion@iwh.is.
